Llanidloes one of the best places to live in the UK

The Royal Mail has produced a table of the best places to live in the country based on the factors of health, jobs and crime and one place to make it onto this prestigious list is the mid Wales town of Llanidloes.

This town on the River Severn beats the more well known Shropshire local rivals of Ludlow, Ironbridge and even Shrewsbury to get onto the list which is based upon the desirability of each post code throughout each country in the UK. The top three post codes in Wales (or most desirable) are Brynteg in Anglesey, Llantwit Major in second place followed by Llanidloes. The corresponding top three postcodes in England are the Wiltshire town of Tidworth, Yateley, a village in Hampshire is second and St Bees in Cumbria takes the third place spot.

The town scored well on the various ways to calculate the quality of life, including the cost of housing, the availability of jobs locally, the standard of education in schools, the overall health of the people and having a low crime rate.

Llanidloes is already a popular destination for a day trip with many residents of Shropshire and it is anticipated that this placing on the list will lead to an upsurge in the town’s tourist economy as visitors from further afield will flock to the town to check it out for themselves. The town boasts a great collection of shops and is surrounded by beautiful countryside with many scenic footpaths as well as the spectacular Llyn Clywedog reservoir. There is a well known 25 mile circular walk from the town to the source of the River Severn and back known as the Sam Sabrina Walk and has taken place each year since 2006.
