Details for Bailiffgate Museum

If you are on holiday in the lovely county of Northumberland and fancy doing something different for a few hours then pop along to the Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery.

The museum is located in the market town of Alnwick, just off the A1 and houses lots of interesting artefacts and exhibitions about life in the local area in times gone by. The museum building was previously a church and can be found in the Castle Quarter of the town, with an upstairs gallery and high ceilings it really is an impressive sight. Children will love to visit here as well as their parents as the museum provides plenty of hands on activities and the chance to dress up in period clothes and take part in a Victorian classroom setting. The gallery holds exhibitions which change throughout the year and includes the WILD exhibition which celebrates the various wildlife and birds which can be found in the local area and features displays, photographs and regular talks from experts in bird watching and wildlife spotting.

The museum also runs various Community Projects, one of which aims to bring stories of how life was in the area during the First World War for the people of Nothumberland both at home and for those who went away to fight, many of which did not return. This project references photographs, souvenirs and letters sent from soldiers on the front line and gives an insight to what they endured.
