Details for Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum

Located near the town of Bungay on the outskirts of Flixton in picturesque East Anglia is the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum. This makes for a fun and interesting day out if you are holidaying in the area. It is easily accessible from the Norfolk Broads and the holiday resorts of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Situated close to the former RAF Bungay airfield this museum has a superb collection of aircraft and artefacts from the pioneer years of aviation, through the Second World War and up to the present day.

From its early beginnings in the 1970s this museum has steadily grown and increased in both size and number of exhibits such that by 2014 there were a total of 66 aircraft and more than 30,000 artefacts for visitors to view. There are some aircraft displayed outside and the vast majority are on view within themed buildings which cover various parts of the air forces of Britain and the USA. These include Bomber Command, Air-Sea Rescue, the Royal Observer Corps and the 446th (H) Bomb Group.

Our collection of aircraft and cockpits include such marvellous examples as the Avro Vulcan (nose / cockpit), the Hawker Hunter, the Gloster Meteor and the English Electric Lightning. There are also microlights, gyrocopters and gliders to be seen. We house an impressive collection of navigation and radio navigation tools from the 1920s up to the current time. There is also an interesting exhibition of the decoy sites which were used by the RAF during the war to fool the Luftwaffe to bomb fake planes, airfields and even towns.
