This professional theatre is open all year long and features productions including a Summer Repertory Season, Pantomime, touring shows and concerts.

There is a varied programme on offer this year including comedy performances such as Rising Damp and traditional plays including Pickwick adapted from the work of Charles Dickens. Brass band concerts and other musical performances take place throughout the year. This years pantomime is Sleeping Beauty and is sure to be a great hit for all the family to enjoy.

The theatre is named after Sarah Thorne a 19th century actress and theatre manager of the Theatre Royal in Margate. She was a leading lady in many plays, performing opposite some of the major performers of the time. She appeared in many theatres both in the south east region and also in Scotland and Dublin, Ireland. She had a major part in developing young actors and in 1855 opened her School of Acting which has been regarded as the first formal drama school in the country. She appeared regularly in productions until 1898, shortly before her death the following year.

Membership of the theatre is not essential but is recommended as regular attendees can save quite an amount over the year. The theatre has a licensed bar open during all productions.
