Details for Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum

Not only do we have a good selection of toys and games from the past, at the Cottage Museum you can also let your children play with them.

Located at Woodhall Spa in the heart of Lincolnshire is the wonderful Cottage Museum. Visitors to the east coast holiday resorts of Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe who fancy a day trip with a difference should head for this fascinating museum as there is something for all the family to enjoy.

The cottage was in the Wield family from the late 1880s up to the 1960s. One member of the family, John Wield is responsible for the creation of the museum as he was a keen photographer and his rare collection of photos is an amazing record of the local area and its people. This collection forms the basis of the museum. The building itself is a rare example of a bungalow made from a wooden frame and corrugated iron and as such is an exhibit itself. Inside the museum you will find rooms showing the history of Woodhall Spa and the local area with many photographs and artefacts.

There is a room dedicated to Woodhall Spa during the Second World War with many photographs of aircraft and RAF personnel operating from the nearby airfield. It was from here that the famous 617 Squadron ‘The Dam Busters' set off for their memorable mission in 1943. Also within the museum is a fine collection of toys and games from years gone by. These are available for children who are visiting to feel free to play with them, something young visitors find fascinating.
